Toivo-farm co-operative

Toivo-farm co-operative grows in small areas of biodynamic vegetables around the Rihu-village. Also small cultivation in greenhouse; tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies etc In the spring cooperative is producing organic seedlings for sale, as well as market and for small biodynamic farms in Finland. The cooperative also supports the NGO's activities, the idea is to let the people have an opportunity to learn vegetable cultivation in the way that people can share the knowledge and skills forward.
Biodynamic farming is based on the sustainable use of natural resources. The fields are managed with compost, green manure, crop rotations and biodynamic preparations. Biodynamic farming is the oldest organic farming method. Biodynamic farm has big range of crops and domestic animals.
Toivo-farm co-operative has Organic and Demeter certificates.

Rihu villageschool's learning centre

The NGO, together with the co-operative will give the opportunity to people of all ages interested in biodynamic and organic farming, self-sufficiency, communal lifestyle, self-reliance and ecological way of life etc a chance to become practice a variety of life skills on the farm. The NGO receives students, volunteers and anyone who like to participate all around the globe. The NGO has aim to renovate the 100years old schoolbuilding, which will be the centerfor the action, also a public space for hobbies and events. The NGO also makes a variety of social projects and campaigns in Heinola and the surrounding area - we are pleased to work together whether it's children, the elderly and youth. The area is located in the middle of forests and lakes. Theres many places for hiking or collecting berries, mushrooms etc as well as for swimming in lakes just in walking distance.

There are also 3 cows and a bull plus some chickens taking part of daily life at the farm. They are more likely pets and since not in production, they are good for persons to learn how to take care of animals as well.

The NGO receives persons from many different places, such as WWOOF, Workaway, EVS (European Volunteer Service) plus students from farming schools all over the world and also youth from Waldorf school in Finland.
